European Society of Social Psychiatry

Esteemed colleagues, friends, and collaborators,

We are thrilled to announce the inaugural congress organized by the European Society of Social Psychiatry in Romania, scheduled for May 17th and 18th, 2024. This significant event is made possible through collaboration with Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iasi, the Institute for Training in Cognitive and Behavioural Therapy, the No Addict Clinic, the Iasi County Centre for Educational Resources and Assistance, the International Society of Addiction Medicine, the World Association of Social Psychiatry, the National Anti-Drug Agency, the Psiterra Association, the Iasi College of Physicians, the Iasi branch of the Order of Nurses, Midwives and Medical Assistants in Romania, and the Iasi branch of the National College of Social Workers.

Aligned with the core mission of the European Society of Social Psychiatry (ESPS), this congress aims to advance our understanding of social and cultural dynamics in mental health. It also seeks to educate both the community and mental health professionals, foster international research partnerships, and orchestrate impactful scientific gatherings within the field.

The chosen theme underscores one of the pressing challenges confronting contemporary society: the pervasive proliferation of addictions across diverse demographics. Recognizing the escalating complexities associated with addiction, our congress is dedicated to exploring avenues for early detection, prevention, and treatment. By spotlighting innovations in mental health and social psychiatry, we endeavor to mobilize collective efforts towards combating addiction and cultivating environments conducive to holistic well-being.

The congress will be hosted in Iasi, the easternmost Francophone city in Europe, characterized by a fusion of Western European influences and rich historical and cultural heritage. Despite enduring numerous adversities throughout its history, Iasi, often hailed as "the cultural capital of Romania," stands as a symbol of resilience and renewal. The city's diverse tapestry of influences serves as both a testament to its strength and a beacon of hope for contemporary society.

Buoyed by this sense of optimism, the European Society of Social Psychiatry, alongside our esteemed national and international collaborators, is proud to affirm that addiction is not an insurmountable obstacle. Through rigorous and innovative approaches within the domain of social psychiatry, various rehabilitation programs offer avenues for redemption and renewal.

We extend a warm invitation to you to join us in Iasi for a transformative exploration of mental health innovation at our congress organized by the European Society of Social Psychiatry. Join renowned thought leaders and researchers from across Europe for a comprehensive examination of recent advancements in the field. Through keynote presentations, interactive dialogues, and networking opportunities, the congress promises to serve as a catalyst for knowledge exchange and collaborative endeavors.
