Couple and Family Processes

Lab coordinator: Prof. univ. Dr. Maria Nicoleta Turliuc

Lab description: We start from the premise that couples and families are interdependent systems, funtioning on the bases of circular causality, composed of individual members and subsystems that share a certain degree of emotional connection and common goals.

Along with individual differences (e.g., attachment style, personality traits, positive and negative emotions, etc.), dyadic processes (e.g., self-disclosure, communication, social support, dyadic stress, dyadic emotional regulation, dyadic coping, etc.) influence both the psychological and / or physiological well-being of the individual (satisfaction with life, subjective well-being, psychological well-being) and the quality of the intimate relationship (eg, intimacy, commitment, love and relational satisfaction).

We promote studies that use dyadic analysis models, which have as a premise the interdependence of partners’ data, but also other advanced research methods.

The main research directions are:

  • The processes involved in the formation of couple relationships.
  • The processes involved in maintaining family relationships.
  • Dyadic stress and coping.
  • The processes involved in breaking up intimate relationships.
  • The processes involved in the functioning of parent-child relationships.
