Presentation Of The Study Format “Distance Learning DL”
“A little science makes people pretentious, while much science makes them humble: just as empty ears of grain raise proudly their lofty heads to the sky, while full ears bend toward the earth under their weight.”
(Leonardo da Vinci)

What is distance learning?
Distance learning is a modern form of training used both at the university level and in the organization of postgraduate studies. It is used by millions of students around the world and has been present for several years in Romanian universities as well. This form of organizing the educational process does not require the student's daily presence at courses but does imply participation in tutorial activities and completing control assignments.
What are the advantages of distance learning?
Distance learning is an organizational form of the educational process adapted to the rapid evolution of science and society, as well as to the needs for professionalization and professional reconversion of adults. It responds especially to the need for lifelong education that we all feel in our daily professional activity.
It is open to all categories of adults who choose to continue their studies, but it is preferred especially by adults who already have a stable job, and whose professional challenges require specialization aligned with their interests in career development.
The flexibility of the study schedule and the possibility of communicating with teachers through non-traditional formats (correspondence, electronic messages, etc.) are advantages for students who are already active on the labor market and do not have the time needed to attend full-time courses.
Specific activities of distance learning: tutoring and control assignments
The educational activities of distance learning programs are different from those of full-time programs. Courses and seminars are replaced by tutorial activities, which are flexible forms of organizing the teaching process and imply the active involvement of the student in decoding the material and solving specific problems. A tutorial activity does not exceed four conventional hours.
The role of the tutor assigned to each subject is not to transmit a certain volume of information, but to guide the student in autonomous learning, helping them develop the skill of learning. Throughout your university studies in the distance learning system, you will be assisted by tutors for each subject. Their role is to correct the control assignments that you must complete before, during, or after the tutorial sessions (depending on the specifics and complexity of the subject), to offer continuous feedback, and to help you improve your learning process. Control assignments may be sent to tutors either by traditional mail or electronically (email).
The course materials designed for distance learning allow the student to acquire a large part of the content comfortably at home, through individual study, while tutorial activities are infrequent, usually 1–3 for each subject.
What are the advantages of distance learning?
Distance learning requires the student's full involvement in their own learning process and demands the use of effective strategies for managing available resources (time, space, documentation, etc.). Here are some tips meant to help you successfully navigate each stage of your university training:
- Try to plan your study time so that it meets your real needs in relation to your individual learning pace.
- Schedule learning activities at times that fit your daily routine, so they do not generate additional fatigue.
- Try to connect as many new concepts as possible to your life or professional experiences. This will help you remember them more easily and will make learning longer-lasting.
- Complete all control assignments and answer all questions in the textbook, even if they are not required for evaluation. They are designed to facilitate understanding and encourage application.
- Attending tutorial sessions will offer you the opportunity to get answers to your questions and clarify aspects that may seem difficult at first. Therefore, try to participate in all tutorial activities.
Do not hesitate to contact your subject tutors when you encounter difficulties in understanding the material or completing the control assignments.
Other forms of educational assistance available to you. Consultations
If you encounter problems or questions that you cannot resolve during independent study or tutorial sessions, you may request individual or group consultations from your tutors. These meetings aim to guide you in solving specific issues and not to continue the teaching activity. Therefore, it is preferable to prepare for these consultations in advance by reading the unclear material and summarizing the points you want to discuss with your tutor.
Consultations have a specific role when they are intended to guide the elaboration of the bachelor's thesis. Students are required to choose their thesis topic and coordinator at least one year before completing their studies and to engage actively in its development. The purpose of thesis consultations is strictly to guide the documentation and applied research process.
