L’image des Gitans au Portugal

Résumé: Dans la société portugaise, la minorité gitane est la plus traditionnelle, peut-être la plus nombreuse mais aussi la moins aimée. Dans le but de mieux comprendre les raisons de cette
situation, nous avons entrepris une étude des représentations sociales des Gitans parmi les autres Portugais. Pour étudier ces représentations, différentes sources d.information . littérature, législation et, spécialement, des opinions recueillies par enquête . ont été examinées dans le cadre théorique et méthodologique de la Théorie des Représentations Sociales. La définition sociale du Gitan maintient un aspect négatif à travers les siècles, qui semble être le produit des rapports sociaux vécus entre les Portugais Gitans et les Portugais non Gitans. Un contact plus proche avec les Gitans est, peut-être, un élément important de transformation de cette représentation sociale négative.
Rezumat: În cadrul societăţii portugheze, ţiganii constituie cea mai tradiţionalã minoritate, poate cea mai numeroasã, dar şi cea mai puţin simpatizatã. Din dorinţa de a înţelege mai bine cauzele acestei situaţii, am întreprins un studiu care sã investigheze reprezentarea socialã a ţiganilor din perspectiva celorlalţi portughezi. Pentru a studia aceste reprezentãri au fost analizate variate surse de informaţie – literaturã, legislaţie şi, în special, punctele de vedere colectate printr-un sondaj de opinie – în cadrul de referinţã teoreticã şi metodologicã propus de Teoria Reprezentãrilor Sociale. Definiţia socialã a ţiganilor relevã o atitudine negativã de-a lungul secolelor, cauzatã, se pare, de relaţiile sociale dintre ţigani şi portughezi. Este posibil ca un contact mai apropiat cu ţiganii sã contribuie la schimbarea acestei reprezentãri sociale negative.
Abstract: Within the Portuguese society, the Gipsy minority is the most traditional, one of the most numerous but also the least loved one. Aiming at better understanding the reasons of such a situation, we made a study about the social representations of the Gipsies by the other Portuguese. For studying those representations, various sources of information – literature, legislation, and, more specifically, the views gathered through an enquiry – were examined within the theoretical and methodological framework of the Social Representations Theory. The social definition of the Gipsy conveys a negative attitude throughout the centuries apparently due to the social relations experienced between the Gipsies and the Portuguese. A closer contact with the Gipsies could eventually contribute to change this negative social representation.
