Author’s Views on the Subject of Philosophy’s Teaching and Learning: A Sociological Look on Education
Here we present some data for a research project that was based on interviews with both students and teachers, on the teaching of philosophy in Portugal in high schools. The total research took place between 2006 and 2011 and the interviews with teachers and students took place in 2007-2008 in secondary schools in the southern region, Algarve, with the results being treated qualitatively. In this investigation, it was considered essential listening to both teachers and students, all of which are key determinants and actors in the educational process. Said answers given by the participants resulted in a wealthy range of insights on the educational process and the roles of each and others. In this article, we present the views of
teachers and students about the contributions of teacher’s performances on improving education. The looks of these “actors” of the educational system is critical because teachers and students reflect on their experiences about the teaching of philosophy, highlighting positive and negative aspects, proposing amendments and making suggestions.
